Helen Glover, born June 17, 1986, is a celebrated British professional rower and two-time Olympic champion.
Early Life and Education: Glover was not initially involved in rowing. She participated in various sports during her youth and attended Brunel University, studying Sport and Exercise Science and later Cardiff Metropolitan University, earning a PGCE.
Rowing Career: She began rowing through the Sporting Giants talent identification program in 2008. Her rise in the sport was meteoric. She partnered with Heather Stanning in the women's pair, forming a dominant force.
Olympic Success: Glover and Stanning won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics in the women's pair. She became a household name in Britain.
World Championships: In addition to her Olympic triumphs, Glover is a four-time World Champion, winning titles in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Retirement and Return: Glover initially retired after the Rio Olympics to start a family. However, she made a comeback to rowing in 2021, aiming for the Tokyo Olympics. While she did not medal in Tokyo, her return was inspiring.
Personal Life: She is married to wildlife presenter Steve Backshall and they have three children.
